Ontario Base Map: Topographic Land Information
The Ontario Base Map topographical maps provide a great cartographic base from which to build Custom Maps, Land Terrain Data and Mapping Analysis for modeling, planning and development. Various Topographic and GIS features / attributes are contained in the newly updated 2004 Ontario Base Map / OBM data set and 2008 Addressed Streets. Most are the equivalent of features on topographic maps in the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Ontario Base Map (OBM) series. Features cover 95% of Ontario (far northern regions - information limited). Depending on file size, different coverages are available as files for the whole Province, for Ministry of Natural Resource Regions, Ministry of Natural Resources Districts, OBM Tile Reference or Custom Regional Mosaics. The data set is a medium scale mapping format designed to cover the Province at scales of 1:10 000 in Southern Ontario and 1:20 000 in Northern Ontario. The content of the OBM include the geographical references of the topographic, cultural and cadastral features of Ontario. There is coverage for a variety of different themes as displayed on the Ontario Base Maps, including airports, buildings, contour lines, spot heights (elevations), hydrography, lakes, watercourses, hypsography, drainage, municipal boundaries, parks, pits and quarries, roads / streets, railways, utility lines, vegetation, wetlands, native reserves and the township boundaries as originally surveyed by the Crown. Refer to Database / Attributes table for a full list of features. Features are collected according to pre-defined geo-processing rule and guidelines. Features are identified by utilizing the National Standards for Feature Classification and Identification produced by the Provincial and Federal Government. Data is loaded in the OGDE and stored in a topological structure which is comprised of points, centroids, lines, polygons and text. Positional accuracy of the OBM is 0.2 metre. OBM Fundamental Data includes all the features taken from the original Ontario Base Map topographic map series. The OBM Fundamental Data is delivered in seamless files, for large areas of the province (MNR Regions and Districts) or is clipped out by Custom Geography / Mosaics. If you are requesting significantly large areas / coverage, custom regional purchases are more cost effective. If you are requesting smaller geographic areas or want digital tiles to correspond with the OBM original Ontario Base Map boundaries or Tile Index, please request OBM data by the tile or sheet number instead. Horizontal datum for all data is NAD83. Vertical datum is derived from mean sea level, as established by the Geodetic Survey Division, Energy, Mines and Resources Canada.

National Topographic Database / NTDB
The National Topographic Database contains all features from the NTDB / NTS.  All coverage for Canada is available. The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) is a digital database developed by Geomatics Canada. The NTDB contains extensive map data classified by feature codes and presented by 10 logical cartographic layers. Included in this dataset are Designated Areas, Hydrography, Hypsography, Manmade Features, Power Network, Rail Networks, Relief and Landforms, Road Networks, Topographic features, Vegetation, and Water Saturated Soils.  The NTDB is available in a variety of digital mapping formats.
